The New Trends For Web Design For 2014

By Sher Adam

The online platform continues to change day in day out most notably in the web design niche. Most web designers today have deviated from normal and basic web design, and are employing new and trending tactics to increase usability and web efficiency. This has been propelled by the wake of smartphones and other handheld devices, new web design trends of 2014 have taken a new twist as discussed below.

Web Design Layouts: Web designers have switched to using grid design in websites, an aspect believed to increase a website's usability. This design was first noted in Pinterest, and many websites seem to have adopted the same. This grid web design format helps make it easy for one to read everything within a website, and contains more visual aspects as compared to content which comes second.

Everyone is aware of how Apple sets the trend for lots of other products, and 2014 will be no exception. Up to now, Apple has had color as its splash of notoriety, but now they are moving toward more of a plain, flat design, called "flat design." Imagine that. Now instead of shadows and gradients, the whole motif will be, just plain.

In 2013, large 'Hero Areas' at the top of sites, borrowed from print, is bound to continue, yet probably without the sliders which are not the viewers best friend. Expect large areas with some print backed up with a large print. This approach seems to work well with real estate sites, with the real 'meat' on farther down. The hero space is going to be very creative and exciting.

Responsiveness is the name of the game, and now it is moving to mobile. Roughly 60 percent of all searchers are doing their searching on mobile devices, so now the mobile apps are gearing up for the biggest mobile promotion yet. More email capture, scrolling sites, and videos instead reading, will be what people will be looking for in 2014.
